Cockles at Lovells Island

Mortons's Egg Cockle

In case any one was wondering what those shells were on the beach on Lovells Island I would like to inform you that those are shells of cockles. I decided to take a couple of shells with me and research them a little bit. The shells that I had were 1.5 inches long and about 1 inches wide. The color had been bleached due to sunlight and the waves but one could still see the brownish lines on top of the shell and brown bands like a wave, and has kind of a brownish purple color on the inside semi-cerciling the shell. They are very glossy on the outside.
